LCC's Reading Together Project hosts author Dan O'Brien
EUGENE - Dan O'Brien, author of the 2006-07 Reading Together book selection at Lane Community College, "Buffalo for the Broken Heart," will speak at the college on Thursday, May 3, at 10 a.m. in the Performance Hall, Building 6, followed by a Q&A and discussion at 2:30 p.m. in the Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19, Room 226. He also gives a reading at Tsunami Books in Eugene on Wednesday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
O'Brien is a two-time winner of both the National Endowment for the Arts individual artist's grant and the Western Heritage Award. "Buffalo for the Broken Heart" describes his ranch's conversion from cattle to buffalo, but even more centrally, O'Brien explores the nature of change and the transformation of his land and life. He has been a wildlife biologist and rancher for more than 30 years, owner of the Wild Idea Buffalo Company, and one of the most celebrated falconers in America today. He was a prime mover in the restoration of Peregrine Falcons in the Rocky Mountains. He is the author of five novels and three memoirs.
