Eddie Little Crow, Lakota, Dakota poet and elder, to speak at LCC
EUGENE - The Reading Together Project at Lane Community College presents Eddie Little Crow, Lakota, Dakota poet and elder, on Thursday, April 19, from 10 a.m.-noon, in the Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19, Room 102, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene. An evening presentation will be held the same day at 7:30 p.m. at the World Cafe, 449 Blair, Eugene.
Eddie Little Crow (Lakota, Dakota) is a poet, former member of the American Indian Movement (AIM), and continues his work in traditional ways throughout the Northwest. As a member of the Elders Council and RED (Red Earth Descendents) in Southern Oregon, Little Crow works to keep a life in balance. He will be presenting work from a book about his life, “Dreaming of a True World, A Opchine WaLa Ohkon,” co-authored with antoinette nora claypoole. Talking about being Indian in a white world, Little Crow will include selections from his poetry, his history with AIM and his life lived as a Lakota both on and off the reservation. Claypoole says, "It is best to think of him as a person coming to you to read poems, talk about surviving in these times, whether we are Indian or white. Ed has a lot to say about just staying alive, awake and present in these purification times."
People are welcome to come late or leave early as schedule permits. For more information see www.wildembers.com and click on Ed Little Crow or contact Ellen Cantor, 463-3660, cantore@lanecc.edu and visit 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/readingtogether
