EUGENE, Ore. - The Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to the Lane Community College Foundation to support career pathways programs and partnerships that provide career and technical training for high school students.
“We deeply appreciate Weyerhaeuser’s gift,” said Lane President Mary Spilde. “Weyerhaeuser’s contribution to Lane demonstrates their commitment to being a true community partner. They recognize the benefits of training and education to our region’s workforce and economy.”
Career pathways are sequences of classes that prepare students for specific job markets. Pathways are open to adults and high school students. The Weyerhaeuser grant will be used in part to develop a career pathway in environmental science. Funds also will defray the costs of training, and support Lane’s growing high school programs, College Now and RTEC (Regional Technical Education Consortium), which provide additional academic and training opportunities for high school students.
“Weyerhaeuser is thrilled to support LCC’s pathways and high school initiatives,” said Mike Moskovitz, the company’s public affairs manager for the western region. “We strongly believe in the programs and services LCC provides local citizens. We have a long-term partnership with the college and feel that it’s important to help support this important local resource.”
The mission of the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation, founded in 1948, is to enhance the quality of life in communities where Weyerhaeuser has a significant presence.
Weyerhaeuser Company, one of the world’s largest integrated forest products companies, was incorporated in 1900. In 2006, sales were $21.9 billion.
