LCC art gallery to feature works by Elmer Jacobs
EUGENE - The Lane Community College Art Gallery presents Elmer Jacobs: Illustrations for the Phoenix Flame, from November 13-30, at the gallery, Building 11, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene.
A lecture, "Deconstructing Elmer," by Lane graphic design program director Thomas Rubick, will be held Thursday, November 16, at 2 p.m., in the gallery, followed by a reception.
This exhibition features over 45 original illustrations by Elmer Jacobs, a prominent 20th Century illustrator, designer, and fine artist from Chicago. The works were produced from 1940 to 1954 for the Phoenix Metal Cap Company and featured in the Phoenix Flame magazine.
Margarite Dudley, whose late husband Byron worked as a graphic artist for Phoenix Metal Cap Company, donated 120 illustrations to Lane in 1994. Rubick oversees the collection and organized the selection for exhibition.
Lane Community College Art Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays. For more information call (541) 463-5409.
