Lane Community College Harvest Dinner sold out

EUGENE - The 4th Annual Harvest Dinner has sold out. The fundraiser is put on by the Lane Community College Foundation and the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management program. The event attracts nearly 400 people each year. The Foundation's signature fundraising event will be held Friday, October 27 at Lane Community College. Proceeds from the event benefit students and college programs.

2006 Guest Chefs are Caprial and John Pence, of Caprial's Bistro in Portland and co-producers of "Cooking for Family and Friends," which airs on PBS stations around the country. Culinary and hospitality management students benefit from an opportunity to work directly with the celebrity guest chefs.

Volunteer co-chairs are Andy and Donna Moore of Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. of Eugene. They are assisted by approximately 150 culinary and hospitality students, staff and volunteers. Sid and Hank Voorhees are the auctioneers.

The title sponsor is Oregon Community Credit Union.

Gold sponsors include Haugland Foundation, PacificSource Health Plans and Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. of Eugene.

Silver sponsors include Arlie and Company; Peterson Pacific; the Pape' Group; The Register-Guard; Trillium Community Health Plan; Umpqua Bank; and U.S. Bank.

Major in-kind sponsors include King Estate Winery, McDonald Wholesale, QSL Print Communication, SELCO Community Credit Union, Silvan Ridge, and Willamette Valley Vineyards.

Auction items include a Stone Soup Day-of-Fame (your name in a cartoon), unique items from China, Japan, Iran, India, Singapore and our own community.

The auction includes many travel and adventure packages, including a private tour of Spruce Goose and Evergreen Aviation Museum; a private condo stay in Las Vegas, a trip to Tuscany, and a Royal Caribbean cruise.

A variety of culinary and cooking experiences include a Pepperberries cooking party for children; a privately hosted paella party; dinner prepared by Lane Community College Chef Instructor Chris Crosthwaite with Lane Community College President Mary Spilde and hosted by University of Oregon President Dave Frohnmayer and Lynn Frohnmayer at the McMorran House; dinner and wine at Silvan Ridge prepared by Lane Community College Chef Instructor Clive Wanstall and winery owner Liz Chambers; and a Wild Salmon BBQ donated by Newman's Fish.

Collectible items will also be auctioned, including a mahogany Hepplewhite bureau chest dresser, circa 1800-1830, from the estate of Weir McDonald; and an 1880's large Chinese storage jar donated by Dotson's Coburg antiques.

Fine art to be auctioned includes an encaustic collage by Sandra McCourry, an acrylic painting by Kazuki Sasaki Hill, a blown glass vase by Portland artists Fields and Fields, and artwork donated by Lane Community College art faculty including Satoko Motouji, J.S. Bird, and others.
