Author and activist Candace Gingrich to speak at LCC
EUGENE - The interim diversity coordinator of Lane Community College presents Candace Gingrich, author of "The Accidental Activist" and senior youth outreach manager for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) working for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equal rights. Gingrich's talk, entitled "Why Oregon, The Queer Vote, And You Are Key To Achieving Full GLBT Equality?" will be presented on Tuesday, May 23, from 2-3:30 p.m. in Building 17, Room 308, Lane Community College main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene. She will also be available for a "meet and greet" on Wednesday, May 24, from 12-1 p.m. at the Lane Women's Center, Building 1, Room 202. Both events are free and open to the public.
Since 1995, Candace Gingrich has served as a key advocate for issues of importance to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. Her 1996 autobiography, “The Accidental Activist,” was a bestseller in the GLBT community. In addition, Gingrich has been profiled in The New York Times, The Washington Post and Newsweek, and has appeared on Good Morning America, Larry King Live, Prime Time Live and other television shows. Her involvement in the movement for equal rights began when her brother, then Representative Newt Gingrich, was elected House speaker. She's traveled to more than 50 U.S. cities on behalf of the Human Rights Campaign to encourage Americans to raise their voices for GLBT equality and to spearhead HRC's voter mobilization project -- urging Americans to register to vote and participate in the political process. She also contributes to HRC's seminars on political training.
