Creating Trust through Conflict: Drs. Susan and Peter Glaser to speak at LCC
EUGENE, OR - Communication specialists, Drs. Susan and Peter Glaser, will speak at the Center for Meeting and Learning at Lane Community College main campus in Eugene, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, on Wednesday, June 7, from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. The seminar, titled "Creating Trust through Conflict: Breakthrough Communication in a Deadlocked World," will focus on developing communication tools to sustain strong, positive relationships in all walks of life. It will directly reference chapters of their most recent book, "Be Quiet, Be Heard: The Paradox of Persuasion," a copy of which is included in the price of admission.
"The Glasers deliver practical, concrete, effective, realistic tools that anyone can master," says Pricilla Gould, executive director of United Way of Lane County. "Entertaining and fun, but most important--it works!"
This seminar will examine how to:
- Decode non-verbal communication to understand what people are really saying.
- Implement a four-step model for getting below the defensive radar of others.
- Teach people how their behavior is a problem without making them feel defensive.
- Convert criticism from defensiveness and blame to insight and agreement.
- Raise difficult issues that simultaneously solve problems and strengthen relationships.
Peter A. Glaser and Susan R. Glaser received their doctorates in communication from Pennsylvania State University. They won the International Association of Business Communication Research Foundation Award for bridging communication theory and practice. Feature stories have been written about their work in Business Week, Nation's Business, the Washington Post, Working Woman, and Success Magazine. Among their clients are Fortune 500 companies such as Hewlett Packard, Weyerhaeuser, Tektronix, and Hyundai, as well as federal, state and local governments from Alaska to New Zealand, including ongoing work with the United States Senate.
