Reading Together presents Jim Garcia performing Corridos, from the Chicano movement

EUGENE - The Reading Together project at Lane Community College presents Jim Garcia performing Corridos from the Chicano movement, on Thursday, February 9 from 10-11:30 a.m., in the Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19, Room 104, Lane Community College main campus in Eugene, 4000 E. 30th Avenue.
Garcia is interim coordinator of the Chicano/Latino Student Program at Lane and is the 2005 recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Award. He will discuss and perform Corridos, oral history through song. He will sing in English and Spanish, self-accompanied on guitar. Corridos honors those who have struggled on behalf of their community and highlight significant events and issues impacting the Mexican-American people. Garcia's presentation considers the history of the Mexican-American experience in this country.
