Crucial Conversations - Bestselling author Ron McMillan to Speak at LCC
EUGENE, OR - National bestselling author Ron McMillan will speak at the Center for Meeting and Learning at Lane Community College on Wednesday, January 11, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The seminar, focused on his recent bestselling book, "Crucial Conversations - Tools for talking when the stakes are high," will discuss the importance of honest communication in all organizations.
"Every team and every organization has problems," says McMillan. "The difference between the best and the merely good is not how many problems they have, but whether or not they candidly discuss and resolve them."
Common challenges to be addressed include:
- Your team has been getting bad results. No one will speak up and no on wants to find out why.
- Your boss's leadership style is smothering you. You hesitate to speak up.
- Top performers are leaving and poor performers are not challenged.
- Important issues are not brought up in a timely matter to those who can do something about them. Only those near the water cooler hear the issues.
- Your colleague has missed a critical deadline. What do you say?
In January 2005, the City of Eugene hosted a lecture with McMillan's co-author, Joseph Grenny, on their second book "Crucial Confrontations," which drew over 500 attendees. The City of Eugene and Lane Community College are now asking them back in January of 2006 to talk about their original publication.
"The Crucial Conversations material is changing how our employees are talking about communication around our organization," says Denise Smith, performance and development manager with the City of Eugene. "After attending the Crucial Confrontations presentation this past January, people really began using the book and practicing the skills."
Tickets to the seminar include one copy of "Crucial Conversations" and a special session booklet and cost $75 for groups of 1 to 5, $65 for groups of 6 to 49 and $50 for groups of 50 or more. Any single person employed by a DHRC (Diversity Human Rights Council) agency can receive the $50.00 ticket rate.
To register, or for more information, call the Center for Meeting and Learning at Lane Community College at 463-3500.
