"Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price" will debut in Eugene at LCC, Friday November 18

Eugene, Ore. - The Associated Students of Lane Community College present "Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price," with special guest, filmmaker Robert Greenwald, on Friday, November 18, at 7 p.m. in the Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19, main campus in Eugene, 4000 E. 30th Avenue.

Producer and director Robert Greenwald, the filmmaker who brought us "Unprecedented,” “Uncovered,” “UnConstitutional" and "Outfoxed," will attend the screening and conduct a question and answer session immediately following the screening. Also speaking at the event will be Peter Sorenson, Lane County commissioner and current candidate for Oregon governor; Paul Holvey, state representative of House District 8 in the Oregon Legislature; and Jeff Anderson, legislative and communications director of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 555.

According to Greenwald, the film takes the viewer into the everyday lives of families struggling to fight against a corporate goliath. From a small business owner in Missouri to a preacher in California, from workers in Florida to a poet in Mexico, dozens of film crews on three continents bring the story of an assault on families and American values. Current and former employees, managers and executives tell about the corporation's inner workings.

The event is open to the public. Admission is free with the purchase of a copy of the film on DVD for $10; or $3 at the door for the event itself. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

For more information contact political science instructor Steve Candee at 463-5188 or candees@lanecc.edu or the Associated Students of Lane Community College at 463-5332.
