BizCenter offers October workshops

How to Build a Business Plan Series

Get your business plan done this fall with this series, which starts on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 1-4:30 p.m. with "Part I: How to Write a Business Plan." "Part II: Putting the Numbers Down on Paper" will be offered on Nov. 29, and "Part III: Taking the Plan to the Banker" will be offered on Dec. 13. Cost for individual workshops is $49, or register for the series for $119. Instructor Marlene Buehler, the BizCenter financial advisor, also offers individualized assistance with your plan.

The ABCs of Project Management

Learn the tools you need to organize and manage business projects. Offered Monday, Oct. 17 & 24, 6-9 p.m., at the Downtown Center, 1059 Willamette St.
Cost is $99, instructor is Bob Choquette.

Frontline Leadership 2000 Series

This seven-module series will guide supervisors and managers toward becoming the leaders their teams need to be proficient, professional, and successful. The highly interactive classes build practical skills that can be used on the job immediately. The first module, "Basic Principles for a Collaborative Workplace," begins on Thursday, Oct. 27, with a focus on creating a climate where individuals are motivated to cooperate, share ideas, and work together for a common purpose. Subsequent classes meet on consecutive Thursdays from 1 to 5 pm through Dec. 15, covering issues such as proactive listening, constructive feedback, giving recognition, coaching, and strategies for navigating change. Register for individual modules for $119 each, or sign up for all seven for $433. Offered at the Downtown Center, 1059 Willamette. Instructor is Kathy Hoeg.

Learn to make effective proposals to your clients--bring your works in progress! Offered Thursday, Oct. 20, 2-5 p.m. Cost is $49. Instructor is Wendell Anderson.

Start making sales now with this new workshop that can get your product or invention to market faster. Thursday, Oct. 20 & 27, 6-8 p.m. Cost is $69. Instructors are Jon Broome and Robin Retherford.

Customer Service Training

Beef up your resume by getting your Q Program customer service training certificate at the BizCenter this fall. The first session is offered on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 9 a.m.-noon. Also offered on Nov. 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is just $25. Instructor is Kathy Wilson.

Microsoft Word for Business Professionals

Unleash the power of Microsoft Word with this 6-hour series intended for legal and other professionals. It's not just about typing anymore. Learn the basics of making it work, then learn how to make it work for you with templates and macros that help simplify complex or repetitive tasks. The series begins with the basics on Friday, Oct. 21, 10 a.m. to noon. Module 2, "Intermediate," will be held on Oct. 28, and Module 3, "Templates, Forms, and Merging," will be held on Nov. 4. All classes are offered at the Downtown Center, 1059 Willamette St. The cost for individual modules is $49, or sign up for the series for just $109. Instructor is Judy Boozer.

Legal Issues for Small Business Series

Think of it as a legal quick-start. This three-module series, co-sponsored by the law offices of Janice Mackey (who is also the instructor), can help you get your legal ducks in a row at a very modest cost. Module 1: Getting Started--Choosing a Form and Recordkeeping, begins the series on Wednesday, Oct. 19, from 8 to 10 a.m. Module 2: Employment Basics will be on Oct. 26, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., and Module 3: Internet and Intellectual Property will be held on Nov. 12 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. The cost is just $12 per module, or $32 for the series.
