What's Coming up at the BizCenter
EUGENE, OR - October brings a host of new workshops with practical applications for businesses.

New Sales and Marketing Workshops
For sales beginners, the new Smart-Start Program can provide a background in solid sales principles. Develop influencing, listening, and negotiating skills while building selling skills in this dynamic 12-hour workshop, offered every other week on Mondays, Oct. 3-Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $199. Instructor Terri Harley, instructor for the popular Going into Business and Building the Foundations classes, has more than 20 years of experience in sales and business ownership.
Sales pros can register for the Smart-Pro Program to bring their skills up to the next level of success. Work on problem-solving and people skills, cold-calling techniques, and presentation skills through highly interactive role-playing sessions. Offered every other Monday, Oct. 10-Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $199. Instructor is Terri Harley.
A third new workshop, Inspiring Others with Your Business Story, teaches participants how to market their businesses more effectively by becoming better storytellers. These creative marketing techniques can inspire more compelling business conversations. Offered Mondays, Oct. 3-Dec. 12, from 6-8:30 p.m. Cost for the 25-hour class is $225. Instructor is Krishna Khalsa.
Artisans can learn how to take their arts or crafts to the next level with the Wholesale and/or Retail workshop, which discusses the retailing at fairs and festivals versus wholesaling on a national, or international, level, as well as internet sales. Participants are invited to bring their booth displays for critiquing. Offered Monday, Oct. 3, from 7-9 p.m. Cost is $39, instructor is Susan Klein.
How to Get More Done...Without More Time
Everyone should make time for this new time management workshop, which offers techniques for setting, prioritizing, and accomplishing goals. Learn how to concentrate better, deal with interruptions, and manage complex tasks. Workshop is offered Saturdays, Oct. 8-22, from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost of the 9-hour workshop is $121. Instructor is Marvin Ball.
Money Management Made Easy
This new workshop gives participants who are tired of living paycheck to paycheck simple tools to take charge of their financial security in four hours. Learn techniques to reduce debt, build wealth, and create a financial plan. Workshop is offered on Wednesdays, Oct. 5 and 12, 6-8 p.m. for $39. Instructor is René Wilson.
Project Management Series Begins
Learn critical project planning skills and strategies in the three-module Project Management Series that begins in October. The 12-hour Module 1: Initiation and Planning runs Wednesdays, from Oct. 5 to Oct. 26, 9 a.m.-noon, for a cost of $201. The six-hour Module 2: Execution and Control Basics, is offered Nov. 9 and 16 for $87, and Module 3: Closeout Basics is offered from 9 a.m.-noon on Nov. 30 for $63. Offered at the Downtown Center, 1059 Willamette. Sign up for individual modules, or register for the series at a discounted rate of $299.
The Latest Training for Programmers!
Introducing our new .NET Series, providing the skills needed to create event-driven client/server applications in this powerful environment. The .NET Basics module is offered on Fridays, Oct. 7-21, from 1-5 p.m. Module 2: .NET Intermediate runs Oct. 28-Nov. 18. Modules cost $199 each, or register for the series for a discounted rate of $349.
The new XML Applications Series also begins this October. Module 1: XML Basics, provides basic skills in creating XML models, management, queries, and presentation. Offered Wednesdays, Oct. 5 and 12, 6-9 p.m. Module 2: XML Intermediate provides real-world examples and practical, hands-on lab experience. Offered on Oct. 19 and 26, 6-9 p.m. Sign up for individuals modules for $108 each, or register for both and pay a discounted rate of $149.
For Web programmers, our Cascading Style Sheets Series is also offered this term. The Basics module runs Saturday, Oct. 8 and 15, from 1:30 to 4:30. The Intermediate module that can take your skills to the next level is offered Satuday, Oct. 22 and 29. Sign up for individual modules for $115 each or sign up for the series for a discounted rate of $175.
For database programmers, the BizCenter offers the two-module Data Management with Microsoft Access Series. Module 1, covering basic skills, is offered Thursdays, Oct. 6 and 13, 1:30-4:30 p.m. Module 2: Intermediate, is offered Thursday, Oct. 20 and 27. The modules cost $108 each, or register for the series for a discounted rate of $149.
Hot New Certification Prep Classes
The BizCenter's new Linux System Engineer course focuses on preparation for industry-leading, performance-based Linux IT certification exams. The course is offered on Saturdays, Oct. 1-Dec. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost of the 40-hour course is $799. Department consent is required; call 463-5255 to register. Offered at the LCC Main Campus.
The new CISSP Exam Preparation course gives information systems security professionals a leg up on the certification exam and study current trends in information security, including the "10 Domains of the Common Body of Knowledge." This 24-hour course is offered Mondays, Oct. 3-Nov. 21, from 6-9 p.m. Cost is $599. Department consent is required; call 463-5255 to register.###
