Health, community and global issues will be explored by national and local experts at the LCC Oregon Bioneers Conference October 14, 15 and 16
EUGENE, OR - The Second Annual Oregon Bioneers Conference will be held at Lane Community College October 14-16, beginning daily at 8:30 a.m., in the Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19, main campus in Eugene. The event includes a satellite broadcast from the 16th Annual Bioneers Conference in San Rafael, Calif., plus on-site presentations by local and regional speakers. LCC is one of 17 sites across the nation to host the teleconference and offer local workshops.
"The Bioneers Conference fits Lane's educational mission," says Tim Craig, executive director of Community Education and Workforce Development. "It also supports our initiative to infuse economic and environmental sustainability into the learning environment." Craig adds that Lane is ideal for a regional event. "We're just off I-5, parking is free, we have a state of the art conference facility, and catering is provided by our conference and culinary program."
About 300 people attended last year's event. Organizer Jeremy Olsen expects more this year. "This is a unique opportunity to create positive change in the Northwest," he says. "It's a hub of practical solutions."
Workshop topics include food and farming, environmental education, ecological medicine, the arts, economics and more. There are exhibits, films, a youth program including scholarships for high school students, and networking opportunities.
The 15 national speakers include David Orr, professor of environmental studies at Oberlin College and author of "Ecological Literacy." Local speakers include Anthony Cortese, founder of Second Nature, a sustainable education organization; Jensine Larsen, editor of World Pulse Magazine; and Dick Roy, co-founder of Northwest Earth Institute.
Pre-registration is required. For more information, visit www.bridgingworldsnw.org or contact Jeremy Olsen, jeremy@bridgingworldsnw.org, (541)345-6919.###
