Lane Community College Celebrates National Dance Week
April 21-29, 2005
EUGENE, OR - The Lane Community College Dance Program celebrates National Dance Week with an exciting array of master classes, discussions, and performances. All National Dance Week events are FREE (with the exception of The Works concert) and open to the public. This event is part of a larger nationwide event happening simultaneously across the country. National Dance Week at Lane showcases the dynamic diversity of dance, educates audiences about dance in our community, and brings greater recognition to dance as an art form.
The celebration of dance will begin with THE WORKS Student Dance Concert. Featuring innovative choreography by Lane dance students, the evening consists of group and solo pieces in a variety of styles. Many of the choreographers participated in a year-long choreography series comprised of Improvisation, Solo Composition, and Group Choreography classes. THE WORKS will be performed on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, April 21, 22, and 23, at 8pm. Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are general admission and may be purchased at the door or ordered through the Lane Ticket Office at 463-5202.
LCC's celebration of National Dance Week offers master classes in many dance genres including Tango, West African Dance, Salsa, Capoeira, Modern, and several somatic techniques. Guest teachers include Capoeira instructor Salsicha; Artistic Director of Joint Forces Dance Company, Alito Alessi; Tango dancer E. Vivianna Marcel; and owner of Options Through Movement, Jan Cox, who applies Feldenkrais technique to her physical therapy practice. Other events include Continuum and Body-Mind Centering classes, open rehearsal with the Lane Dance Company, and discussions with performing artists. All master classes and events are FREE, open to the public on a drop-in basis, and held in PE 132, Dance Studio in Building 5 of Lane Community College.###
