Corridos performance to honor Mexican-American history
EUGENE, OR – Jim Garcia will perform Corridos from the Chicano movement on Tuesday, February 1, from 2-4 p.m., in the Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19, Room 102, on Lane Community College main campus at 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene. Audience members may come late or leave early as their schedules permit.
Corridos is a performance of oral history through song that honors the leaders, events, issues and history of the Mexican-American people. Garcia sings bilingually and plays guitar. His performance last year drew a standing-room only audience.
Garcia is the diversity coordinator at Lane and is the recipient of the community’s 2005 Martin Luther King Leadership Award. The Corridos event is sponsored by the Reading Together project at Lane.
