Three seats up for election on LCC Board of EducationEUGENE, OR - Three positions on the Lane Community College Board of Education are up for election in the May 17 special district election. The openings are for Zones 1, 3 and 4.
Zone 1 is primarily western Lane County including Florence. The position currently is held by Paul Holman of Florence who was appointed in December 2002 to fill an unexpired term, and elected in 2003 to complete that term. He is a realtor, serves on the Florence city council, and is former publisher of The Siuslaw News.
Zone 3 is primarily Springfield and Marcola. The position currently is held by Dennis Shine of Springfield. He was elected in 2001. He is a retired college economics instructor and citizen activist.
Zone 4 is primarily eastern Lane County including McKenzie River and Cottage Grove. The position currently is held by Kathleen Shelley of Vida. She was appointed in 1996; elected in 1997; and re-elected in 2001. She is a retired K-12 administrator.
The filing period is from February 5 through March 17 at Lane County Elections. Candidates must live in the zone they file for, even though all district voters vote on all board positions. Election is to a four-year term beginning July 1, 2005, and expiring June 30, 2009.
