Women's Care funds two nursing scholarships at Lane Community College

EUGENE - Women's Care, a Eugene-based independent group of physicians and surgeons, has donated $2,000 to provide two $1,000 scholarships for nursing students at Lane Community College for the 2004-2005 academic year. The scholarship also includes an optional internship with Women's Care.
According to Karen Rutan, administrator of Women's Care, the physicians are concerned about the national and local shortage of registered nurses. "By sponsoring these scholarships, Women's Care hopes to encourage students to explore and enter the rewarding field of nursing," she explains. Paula Jewett, M.D., of Women's Care will participate on the scholarship selection committee.

March 1, 2004, is the deadline for applying for the scholarships. To be eligible, a student must be a Lane County resident, a full- or part-time nursing major, have at least a 3.0 grade point average, and must demonstrate financial need based on federal criteria.

Applications are available online at www.WomensCare.com, or at 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/foundation/.

The associate degree nursing program at Lane Community College prepares graduates for the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses. The program is accredited by the Oregon State Board of Nursing and includes both theory and clinical experience. Students are selected on the basis of a rigorous admission process including GPA, health care work experience and completion of non-nursing courses. More information about the Women's Care scholarship is available by phoning LCC's nursing program at 541-463-5730.
