EUGENE - In an effort to raise funds to build a long house at Lane Community College, ceramics students have thrown 250 soup bowls and will sell them with a voucher redeemable for a free bowl of soup from culinary arts students, on Wednesday, November 12, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Center Building cafeteria, Lane main campus. Native American students will provide drumming.

Ceramics instructor Erik Land came up with the idea. He said the effort was not a class assignment and that the students contributed their own time and talent to help the long house project.

Lane students and staff have worked to raise funds for a long house for several years. The facility will provide classroom space, culturally specific meeting and gathering space, and be a resource for students, staff and the community. Friends of the Long House fundraising committee members will be available on Wednesday to provide information about the project.

If all the bowls don’t sell, the sale will be repeated on Thursday, same time and place.
