Harvest dinner and auction will raise scholarship funds

EUGENE - The Lane Community College Foundation has created a new and exciting way to raise awareness and donations to support college scholarships. The elegant First Annual Harvest Dinner and Auction will be on Wednesday, September 24. This taste-tempting event will feature the extraordinary talents of Lane culinary and hospitality students, faculty and alumni under the direction of guest chef Cory Schreiber. Schreiber is the executive chef and owner of the well-known Wildwood Restaurant and Bar in Portland.

Shelley Kurtz and Dennis Nakata will emcee this distinctive dinner and auction including special recognition to Don Savoie (now retired) and Willie Kealoha for their years of dedication and invaluable contributions as LCC instructors in the early development of the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Program. Savoie also carries a distinguished reputation from his years with the Coburg Inn. The venerated Sid Vorhees will be the auctioneer.

Guest chef Cory Schreiber opened Wildwood Restaurant in Portland nine years ago and rapidly became a leader in the region's bustling culinary scene. Cory won the James Beard Award in 1998 for Best Chef Pacific Northwest -- a fitting tribute to a man who cherishes the land, its people, and produce much in the same way Beard, a native Oregonian himself, did. "My influences have all been American, starting with my family," Cory says. "I don't want to get muddled in 'eclectic this' and 'eclectic that.' I want to keep it straight-forward and simple."

Auction items will also be unique and have been donated by numerous businesses throughout Oregon. Some featured packages include: private culinary classes and catering by Lane instructors and students; golf packages at Bandon Dunes, Shadow Hills Country Club, Tokatee and more; vacation packages at Sunriver Resort, Newport Beach, Eagle Crest, and others. Home improvement and sports packages also promise a big return for a fun-filled auction with outdoor furniture, equipment rentals, games with the Dodgers, Brewers and Utah Jazz!

All proceeds from this delicious dinner and uproarious auction will go towards Lane Community College scholarships and programs. The event begins at 6 p.m. for the silent auction, wine and hors d'oeuvres. The dinner and live auction begin at 7:15 p.m. at the Center for Meeting and Learning, Lane Community College main campus.
