LCC faculty teach energy efficiency to Middle Eastern colleagues
EUGENE - Two instructors from Lane Community College recently returned
from Cyprus where they trained faculty from the American University of
Beirut, Jordan University of Science and Technology, Birzeit University,
and Palestinian Polytechnic University, in energy efficiency and energy
auditing of commercial buildings.
Roger Ebbage and Mike Hatten, both of Eugene, teach in the two-year energy
management technician program at Lane. They also train and certify practicing
professionals in conservation and energy efficiency through the program’s
Northwest Energy Education Institute.
Ebbage and Hatten conducted a five-day workshop April 20-25 in Larnaca, Cyprus. Topics focused on environmental sustainability through energy efficiency, and renewable energy technology. The program included a cultural exchange covering the differences in energy use in the United States and Middle East. Participants will take the information back to their engineering departments and offer advisory services to government ministries and commercial establishments.
Participants included 12 mechanical engineers, two architects, one electrical engineer, one energy economy and engineering manager, and one environmental sciences instructor. Two were women.
The workshop was funded by a grant from the U.S. State Department. The Energy Management Program is entirely funded by the Eugene Water and Electric Board.
