Dr. Jodie McVittie to address conference on families March 8
EUGENE - Saturday Circus, the parent education program at Lane Community
College, and the Oregon Society of Individual Psychology will hold their
daylong 10th Annual Conference on Families, Saturday, March 8. The event
will begin at 9 a.m. in Lane's Forum Building, #17, with a keynote address
by Jodie McVitte, MD and parent educator. McVitte's topic will be "Parenting
from the Heart." McVitte, a long-time advocate for developing mutually
respectful relationships, will present tools that parents and professionals
can use for "empowering children to be the best that they can be."
In addition to her 9:00-noon session, McVitte will present an afternoon
session, "Positive Discipline in the Classroom."
Additional presenters who have contributed to the education of children
and families will offer workshops from 1-4 p.m. Licensed psychologist
Dr. Ruth Bichsel will present symptoms, causes, and interventions in "Fetal
Alcohol Syndrome and Effects." Licensed professional counselor Linda
DeCaccia will offer help in maintaining personal boundaries without being
aggressive in "Holding Your Ground Peaceably." Parents of teenagers
may find this session particularly useful! Those who interact with young
children will find Laura Jones, of Lane's "Saturday Circus"
parent education program, has solid skills to offer in "Love with
Limits." Participants who want a combination of light-hearted humor
with a preview of a 10-episode parent education video series will want
to attend "Parent Education's Best Videos," by Saturday Circus
counselor Carol Lynn Morse and producer Allan Kluber.
Those pushing the conference registration pre-registration date not only can attend the conference, they can attend the afternoon session, “Overcoming Procrastination Starting Right Now,” in which workshop creator Cathy Van Wetter poses reasons behind avoidance impulses and foot dragging and presents strategies for changing these patterns.
Lunch is included in the pre-registration discounted fee of $45 ($35 for students). Pre-registration is important for session selection and luncheon reservation.
