LCC executive to lead academic programs at Cleveland college
EUGENE - Linda Simmons, executive assistant to the president at Lane Community College and Lane employee since 1984, has been named vice president for academic programs at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio. She will begin the new position in January.
"After all these years, it's hard to imagine not coming to work at Lane," says Simmons. "however, this is an opportunity I've been working towards for several years."
Simmons will lead credit curriculum development, alternative credit programs, and academic articulation with external organizations. She will coordinate credit and noncredit programs for maximum effectiveness, including programs for Corporate College. She will guide adult and experiential learning, service learning, internships, and co-op, working with academic and student affairs and workforce and economic development division offices.
Simmons was director of student financial aid at Lane from 1984-93 and accepted her present position in 1994. She has a doctorate in education from Oregon State University, 2000; a master of science in counseling from San Diego State University, 1977; and a bachelor of arts in business administration from Linfield College, 1972. She spent the 1993-94 academic year at Cuyahoga as an ACE Fellow.
Cuyahoga Community College is a member of the League for Innovation in the Community Colleges. It is a large, urban, multi-campus, single community college serving about 55,000 students a year with 21,000 annual student FTE; $121 million total general fund budget; 1,600 full and part-time faculty, 800 support and administrative staff; four collective bargaining unions; and a geographical service areas of 459 square miles.
