PSC earns employer award from LCC

EUGENE — Lane Community College has named PSC Inc. as 2002 Outstanding Cooperative Education Employer of the Year.

Bill Parnell, executive vice president and general manager of PSC, will accept the award from LCC President Mary Spilde on Monday, October 28, at 5 p.m. during a reception in Building 19, Room 102, main campus in Eugene. Lane culinary arts students will cater the event.

"PSC provides exceptionally high-quality, hands-on learning experiences across several disciplines," says Cooperative Education Division Chair Andrea Newton. "Supervisors exemplify commitment to student learning. In fact, the culture of the entire company welcomes students, supports them, and encourages both technical and professional growth."

More than 30 Lane students have benefited from co-op placements at PSC. Electronics students troubleshoot and repair boards, build prototypes and cables, use diagnostic equipment to test components, and assist with quality assurance initiatives. Human resources and accounting students assist with open enrollment, office duties, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. Computer information technology students help with programming, help desk, user support, and networking.

PSC, Inc. provides scanning and data capture solutions with a focus on retail bar code scanning products, mobile and wireless solutions, and self-checkout systems. The company serves retail, manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, package handling, and healthcare industries. Headquartered in Portland, PSC has manufacturing and development facilities in Eugene.
