Romine back on LCC board
EUGENE —
Larry Romine of Eugene was appointed to the zone 5 position on the Lane
Community College Board of Education at a special telephone board meeting
on September 6. He will complete the unexpired term of George Alvergue,
who resigned for personal reasons. The term expires June 30, 2003.
Board members cited the value of Romine’s former board and community
college experience in helping address serious issues in the coming year.
Romine held the zone 1 seat on the board from May 1997 to March 2001,
including a year as vice chair. Zone 1 includes the western part of the
college district and Romine lived in Veneta at that time. He resigned
from the post when he moved to Eugene. Zone 5 includes central Eugene.
Board members must reside within the zone to which they are appointed
or elected.
Romine was Lane’s public relations director from 1966 until his
retirement in 1992. He is a former student and instructor at Clark Community
College in Vancouver, Washington. He has a doctorate in educational policy
and management from the University of Oregon.
Romine will take the oath of office at the next board meeting on Wednesday,
September 11, in regular session at 7:30 p.m., at Lane Community College
at Florence, 3149 Oak Street.
