RSVP seeks new sponsor
EUGENE — The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is seeking a new sponsor and will hold a meeting to present sponsorship and grant information on Thursday, September 5, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Trude Kaufman Senior Center at 996 Jefferson Street in Eugene.
RSVP is funded in part by a $82,715 grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), and by Lane Community College. Lane has sponsored RSVP since 1972 but will relinquish sponsorship at the end of the CNCS grant period on December 31, 2002, due to increasing budget constraints at the college.
“RSVP is a very valuable program,” says Jane Sheidecker, interim executive director for Business, Workforce Development and Extended Learning at Lane. “We at LCC are proud to have been associated with RSVP and are committed to working with the Corporation for National Service and RSVP over the next several months to support a healthy transition to another community sponsor.”
Public and private nonprofit organizations are eligible for sponsorship and are invited to attend the meeting to learn about the program, sponsorship and grants. RSVP has sponsored the Trude Kaufman Senior Center, Community Time Share, Money Management, and the Family Caregiver Support Program, all programs which can be sponsored independently or through RSVP. Meeting presenters will be Elaine Barrett, RSVP director, and Claudia Moorad of CNCS.
Lane’s RSVP was recognized by CNCS last year as one of a handful of 30-year-old RSVP programs in the United States still thriving.
Potential sponsors who cannot attend the meeting may obtain grant information from the Kaufman center beginning August 26, and may contact Moorad at (503) 231-2103 for more information.
