IT
Services Watch Out for My Doom Virus Due to a large number of variations of the My Doom virus, a lag time exists between when the variation appears and when LCC receives the antivirus updates to handle the virus variation. As a result, a few infected email messages have slipped through the LCC email antivirus defenses and have been reported by alert users to the IT helpdesk. The biggest tipoff to having received infected email is that the address appearing in the ”from” field will be a non–LCC address, but the message will be signed by some group with an address ending in lanecc.edu. Some group names we have seen are support@lanecc.edu, network team@lanecc.edu, administration@lanecc.edu. The message will also have an attachment containing the virus payload. The message content varies. Typically the text reports a problem with a message you have sent. You may be asked to follow instructions contained in an attachment to fix. Often the message ends in “have a nice day.” Of course, clicking on the attachment will result in spreading the infection to your pc. Please continue to scan your hard drives and either delete any questionable messages or report them to the helpdesk x4444. Instructions for running the antivirus scan More information about My Doom virus is at: http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.mydoom.m@mm.html
