Employee Recognition Award

Dean Middleton received the IT employee recognition award March1, 2007.  Quoting from Dean's nomination and additional comments:

While serving with Dean on the Classified Professional Development Team (CPDT), I have been very impressed with Dean's leadership as chair of the Team. Dean has made a tremendous contribution to the entire college over the last several years while serving as chair of CPDT. Dean has held the Team together during very difficult times through his strong vision, organization and leadership skills. Dean has worked tirelessly to improve development support for classified staff, boosting morale and professionalism in the face of budget challenges. Many of the classified staff see the in-service activities put on by CPDT under Dean's leadership as one of the most important teambuilding and development opportunities of the year.

Since moving to the ITC, I have had the opportunity to see how Dean supports the faculty who teach in Distance Learning. Several DL instructors have praised Dean's organization and skill in running their classes, and his attentiveness in helping them understand what to do. He coaches them on design of materials for online use and how to present effectively for remote viewers. He also monitors the students in the remote locations and points out to the instructor when they have a question or need help. When Dean gets a new DL instructor (some of whom found out the same day that they would be teaching on Lane TV), he brings them to the ITC, introduces them to Meredith and me, and makes sure they know to come to us for help. As a result, we have several new DL instructors who routinely come to the ITC to prepare materials or get assistance. This is an example of the way Dean is always looking for opportunities to improve Lane and make the most effective use of Lane resources.

I also have watched with interest how Dean works with his cadre of student workers who help out in the studio. He demands rigorous attention to detail in all broadcast operations, and is giving them a terrific education in TV studio operations.

Dean also plays an important role in building and supporting the Diversity programs at LCC.

Dean contributes to both the operational effectiveness and the quality of life at Lane in so many ways, and is always looking for ways to move us forward.
