My main duties will involve teaching English as a Second Language to indigenous staff.
Dan Armstrong The study of American independent films of the last 25 years. Specifically the study of indie classics, neo-noir, and films by unrepresented social groups. Goals are to get familiar with indie filmmakers, closely study the textual systems of films, explore stylistic diversity of indie films, broaden and deepen my understanding of race, class, gender, and sexuality in film -- to understand marginalized communities, etc.
Margaret Bayless Spend four weeks at a retreat to write and engage in discussions. To have reflective time for completing scholarly work on liberation pedagogy and "curriculum as conversation." To work on a grant for an interdisciplinary studies program, working class studies, and women's studies programs. Do research at the Yale University library, stay at Holden Village studying liberatory consciousness and knowledge-in-action teaching theory and practice.
Bill Griffith To enable mathematics instructors to easily create math problems that are distributed and scored via the web. To create tools (replace HyperCard and its images of expressions with software that creates MathML versions of math expressions that are web friendly) and incorporate them into the Math Resource Center testing system so that individual instructors can easily create problem types and tests to suit their individual needs and curriculum.
Linda Loft Do an in-depth study on the Java language and the Java development platform as used in a professional production environment. This will involve an independent review of the Java language using Java and XML, comparing various development environments available for Java, job shadowinga professional Java programmer, taking advanced Java workshops, and attending the Java World Conference in the Bay Area.
Phil Martinez Update my knowledge of current trends in the debate over the direction of Economic theory as it pertains to instruction, learn how recent economic developments are being treated at U of O, OSU, PSU, etc., evaluate comparable courses at peer community colleges. In addition to focus on classroom pedagogy skills such as getting away from the lecture format, increase student to student interaction. Lastly to develop more knowledge and expertise in web page technology.
Kathleen Morrison-Graham Basic scientific research in molecular and cellular biology at the U of O. To expand my knowledge and technical skills in the area of molecular biology. To study DNA micro array advances and to gain exposure to the techniques and research in Dr. Guillemin's laboratory. To participate in lab meetings and seminars, learn new techniques for analyzing DNA expression data, read the literature in the field, collect ideas for a new learning community.
John DelNero Work in public safety as a trainer, advisor, and investigator in another international, multicultural setting.  I have been asked by the Office of the Attorney General, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan, Tinian, and Rota) to assist the Chief Investigator with cross-cultural differences in law enforcement methodology.  I will assist with the ongoing investigations of numerous unsolved murders, and with the local police academy.
