Exercise Science Testing Lab

Cardiovascular EvaluationBasic Assessment

The Exercise Science Testing Lab is run by a professional staff with abundant training in fitness testing and exercise prescription. This team includes both students and instructors from the Exercise and Movement Science Program.  Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the art testing equipment designed for general health and wellness assessments as well as specialized fitness testing for highly trained athletes.  No matter what your current health and fitness level, we have an appropriate assessment in mind for you!

Packaged Services
Basic Fitness Assessment:  Heart rate, blood pressure, Body Mass Index, body fat distribution (waist-to-hip ratio), body composition (7-site skinfold), cardiorespiratory endurance (YMCA submaximal VO2), muscular strength (1-RM bench press and leg press*), muscular endurance (push-ups, curl-ups), flexibility (sit & reach).

The Endurance Athlete:  Heart rate, blood pressure, Body Mass Index, body fat distribution (waist-to-hip ratio), body composition (7-site skinfold), Aerobic Power (VO2max*), muscular endurance (curl-ups, 8-RM leg press*, YMCA bench press), flexibility (sit & reach).

The Power Athlete:  Heart rate, blood pressure, Body Mass Index, body fat distribution (waist-to-hip ratio), body composition (7-site skinfold), Anaerobic Power (Wingate Test*), muscular strength (grip strength, 1-RM bench press and leg press*), core endurance (curl ups), flexibility (sit & reach), and vertical jump.

Wellness Package:  Heart rate, blood pressure, Body Mass Index, body fat distribution (waist-to-hip ratio), blood screening for total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, and blood glucose.  [12-hr fast required]

Individual Tests
Resting Metabolic Rate:  Estimates the amount of energy (Calories) the body needs each day to maintain basic, physiological processes.  [2- to 4-hr dietary and exercise fast required]

Omegawave:  Estimates the body's adaptive response to training by analyzing skeletal muscle metabolism, heart rate variability, and slow brain wave activity.

Body Composition:  A 7-site Skinfold Caliper test is used to estimate the percentage of fat and fat-free mass the body is composed of.

Blood Screening:  Measures total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, and blood glucose.  [12-hr fast required]

*To ensure the safety of all participants, some fitness tests may be modified, substituted, or omitted from your testing package.
