1.  Minutes: Minutes from the Oct. 14 th meeting were presented and approved .

2. Agenda – Tech Fee:

  • CC experienced declining enrollment over the last 2 years which left the Student Tech Fee fund short of some of its projected income levels. But, due to prudent fiscal management, the reserve funds available more than make up for the shortcomings and the Student Tech Fee account is sound.
  • Unused funds, due to extra Carl Perkins allocations, have been added back to the Student Tech Fee account. TACT continues to manage special cases where technology purchases (previously allocated by TACT) were ordered, but not paid, before the fiscal year deadline. In addition, until Lane realizes savings from having a fiber optic connection to the internet, expected some time later this academic year, an increase of $12,000 ($48.000 total) will be needed to cover TACT's agreed 50% coverage of Lane's annual internet access fee.
  • Some contingency fund requests have been received by Student Government and Media Arts. Joe Escobar will follow up with clarification of the Media Arts request for a $750 scanner, and TACT will await a report from Todd Lutz and Barb Delansky on the Student Government requests. TACT members want more information, such as how many machines, located where, use by students in general or elected students only, etc.
  • Historically, TACT held on to contingency funds and awarded them when emergencies arose during the academic year. Funds were released to unawarded TACT requests (in original ranked order) towards the end of the academic year if funding was still needed and the project still active. The attending TACT members agreed that this protocol should remain in effect.

3. Focus Issues:

  • Student Access Network
The future student access network was discussed. The SAN would consist of wired and wireless access points for students to use with their own laptops and devices. The timeline for this would be on an going rollout of access locations, beginning later this academic year. Student Email and Help Desk are issues that are still only in the informative/input collection phase at this time. TACT hopes to have Thad Cowdin report the progress of this project in a future meeting. (perhaps December 9th .)

  • Smart Classrooms
TACT will work on the issue of Smart Classrooms at Lane this year. Specifically, creating definitions, assessment of existing facilities, determination of need, and identifying issues that may help an upcoming Title 3 Grant which may allow for the purchase of equipment.

  • Charge for Printing
TACT will look forward to a report in meetings in early 2005 by Barbara McIntire and Todd Lutz on solutions for controlling printing costs in Lane's open computer labs. TACT members realize that there are many entities that will need to be involved in this process, from the Library, to instructors, to students.

4. TACT members will begin reviewing technical publications and bring topics and issues that apply specifically to Lane to future TACT meetings. Members present volunteered by assuming responsibilities for some of the major publications. All members will be contacted by Stephen Pruch to round out the list of publications to be read.

NOTE – NO NOVEMBER MEETINGS – 2nd and 4th Thursdays are Holidays

Next Meeting: Dec. 9th , from 3pm to 5pm in ADM20
