Information for Counselors
Lane Community College Professional Skills Training (PST) was developed in response to the need for short term training for injured workers. PST now serves a broader range of students who have the aptitude, basic work skills, physical ability, and motivation to begin a new career. The core of PST is supervised lab work (following a curriculum provided by the counselor) with a cooperating employer. In some cases, appropriate classroom instruction compliments the job-site training.
PST staff members are available to meet with you and your client as you select a training plan goal. We are happy to explain how the training works as well as to discuss possible career goals, potential jobsites and past experiences with students having different vocational goals.
After you have identified a training site and developed a training plan you can refer your client to PST. Please follow these guidelines:- Submit a PST referral form* and Authorization (AFP)*
- Provide a jobsite curriculum
- Maintain open communication with student, jobsite supervisor and PST coordinator/staff
- Notify PST coordinator/staff of any problems from the student or jobsite

These counselors had this to say about PST:
“As a private vocational counselor working with workers’ compensation clients, veterans and other persons in rehabilitation programs, I have been using Lane’s Professional Skills Training for over twenty years. Their ability to create successful outcomes for everyone involved is a direct result of their long experience, careful detailed planning, their incredible follow through, and a well developed system that really works. The hands-on approach to training results in a remarkable placement rate of graduates. I rely on LCC’s PST to partner with me, my clients and employers in creating a successful real-world training placement.”
-John MacLeod, MacLeod Career Management
“PST is a good fit for me and my clients. The PST staff is responsive to my needs and offer constructive support to the students during training.”
