UPDATE ON EMAIL SPAM FILTERING:

Email coming into the college is filtered to prevent spam from reaching your GroupWise mailbox. The college receives a detailed weekly report of filtering activity. A notable statistic from the week of February 14: 87.3 percent of incoming email was filtered out as spam. That's not a mistype: 87.3 percent of incoming mail was filtered out as spam. While that number is high, it is neither the highest percentage recorded nor unusually high. Our spam percentage consistently runs over 80 percent.

Two other numbers we watch are the number of false positives (email filtered that we want delivered) and the number of false negatives (email received that we want filtered). For the week of February 14 we reported 20 false positives and 227 false negatives. Total incoming messages for the week were 776,045.
