BARScg Charter (DRAFT)
( B anner A nd R elated S ystems c oordinating g roup )
Revised: November 30, 2004

Background: Many college administrative functions are managed using the SCT Banner suite of tightly integrated applications. The college continues to build on the information systems foundation laid by the LASR Project (2001 - 2004) by implementing new Banner features and adding related systems, such as Resource25, Schedule25, eVisions, SCT XtenderSolutions and the SCT Operational Data Store.

These integrated systems require a high degree of coordination in order to function properly and provide maximum value to the college. Vendors are continuously providing new versions of their systems and offering new products that extend the integration into additional administrative areas.

Purpose: BARScg is chartered to coordinate operation of these highly integrated information systems and to make recommendations to the AVP for IT on systems management issues.

Sponsor: The Associate Vice President for Information Technology is the sponsor of the committee.

Scope of work:

  • The SCT Banner modules running core administrative functions for Student, Human Resources, Finance and Financial Aid; additional SCT products integrated with the core modules, such as ExpressLane, ODS and Xtender Solutions; related and integrated third-party products, such as Series25 and eVisions that rely on and extend the core functionality.
  • Coordinate installation of new application versions, regulatory upgrades and patches
  • Coordinate system downtime
  • Coordinate system testing
  • Coordinate and manage shared data
  • Coordinate heavy usage times
  • Advise on system development (hardware, upgrades, new products)
  • Advise on IT operational policies regarding Banner and related systems
  • Assure continuous quality improvement (of what?)
  • Create and maintain a plan for maximizing the value of the college investments
  • Business Process Improvement

Membership : Membership will be reviewed and adjusted annually. Members are chosen based on their involvement with one or more of the core administrative information systems.

Meetings: The committee meets about twice a month during the entire year and more often when necessary.

Current Members:

  • 2 members (one managerial, one functional/technical) from each core area (Finance, HR, Financial Aid and Student)
  • Associate Vice-President for Information Technology
  • Project Director
  • Oracle DBA
  • Budget Analyst
  • Director of IRAP and Curriculum and Scheduling
