The Lane Community College Foundation is seeking nominations for the 2012 Distinguished Alumni Awards.
At Lane Community College, we are proud of every student. The Distinguished Alumni Awards give us an opportunity to profile students who have gone on to make a difference in their communities, and who have remembered the college along the way.
The Awards will go to alumni who completed 30 credit hours at Lane or earned an associate's degree. Nominees should have demonstrated achievement in their chosen profession, service to the community, or outstanding contribution to the college.
The 2012 Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented at the Foundation’s President’s Circle Donor Reception May.

Rosaria Haugland

President, Rosaria P. Haugland Foundation. Ph.D, founder of Molecular Probes. Rosaria came to Lane after earning her Ph.D in biochemistry from Syracuse. She took courses in small business management along with her husband. Together they founded Molecular Probes in 1975.
Since retiring from her work in science, Rosaria has been involved in volunteer leadership for many community organizations and is the founder of Ophelia’s Place, a community organization dedicated to the empowerment of young women. She has been a Board member of the Lane Community College Foundation since 2004.
Rosaria is devoted to our community and to higher education for women. The Council for Resource Development (CRD) Award recognized Rosaria for her outstanding contributions to Lane Community College. The CRD Benefactor Award embodies the ideals of philanthropy, leadership, and volunteerism in the service of community, technical, and junior colleges. Read more...

Nancy Kinnard
V.P. Business Relationships, Summit Bank. After receiving her Associate’s degree from Lane in 1972 Nancy went on to UO for her BA. While her degree was in Elementary Education, her life-long career and passion have been in Banking. A bank manager for over 20 years she has paved the way for women in our community to fill similar roles in the banking world.
Nancy serves on the board of directors for several community organizations. In addition, she is often called upon by community groups who benefit from her fundraising and financial expertise. Nancy is a strong advocate for community college education and has worked to build relationships between the banking community and the Lane Community College Foundation. Read more...

Paul Machu
Award-winning producer and director at Chambers Productions . Growing up in L.A., Paul worked odd jobs in the film industry. But it wasn’t until 1979 when he moved to Eugene and enrolled at Lane that he discovered his passion for the news and entertainment industry. In 1981 he was hired at KVAL in Eugene with stellar references from his film and media instructors. Today, Machu is an Executive Producer at Chambers Communications.
Machu has served on the media department advisory committee here at Lane and he has also worked as a mentor with cooperative education interns. Machu believes that Lane internships are a great way for students to network and meet with potential employers. Read more...

Nancy Radcliffe
Nancy was the first person in her family to go to college. At Lane, she studied accounting and felt it was a natural transition to continue at UO. Her memories of Lane are of the fantastic teachers in accounting and economics as well as helpful counselors.
Nancy has worked in management at Standard Oil, Tektronix, the Hult Center and the YMCA; she was also the controller for EPIC (Educational Policy Improvement Center) at the University of Oregon and has worked as a consultant for defense attorneys. She is a dedicated community volunteer giving her time to the United Way, serving as PTA president, and on several 4J School District curriculum committees. She’s currently a member of Women in Philanthropy. Nancy has been a generous financial supporter of Lane for nearly ten years. |

Greg Ausland
Civil Engineer – OBEC Consulting Engineers. Completed Lane’s engineering courses in 1983 and obtained Bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University. In his 23 years at OBEC Greg completed numerous community projects and risen to a Principal position. He has restored 26 Oregon covered bridges and received national awards for converting Lowell covered bridge into a visitor center. Currently manages teams designing a cable-stay bridge crossing over Delta Highway and the transformation of the Eugene Train Depot |

Betty Doerr Teacher – Oakridge Public Schools. Betty obtained an Associate’s degree from Lane in 1991. After that she went to Western Oregon University where she earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Learning Disabilities. Betty began teaching in Oakridge in 1997. She is currently the resource room teacher, has a caseload of 45 students and teaches a Life Skills Program. Betty works closely with students as they make their transition to college. |

Fletcher Little
Business Executive/Consultant. Obtained his Business Management Associate’s in 1974, began his career at the Register Guard, and then received a Bachelor’s in Journalism from University of Oregon in 1979. Promoted to General Manager in 1987, a position he held until 2005 when he became Vice-President of Business Development and Internet Publishing. After retirement he started a consulting business, Fletcher Little - Leadership Coaching and Consulting. Currently serves on the Boards for PacificSource and Guard Publishing Company. |

William Moshofsky, MD Chief of Staff – Sacred Heart Medical Center. Attended Lane before receiving a Bachelor’s in 1976. After obtaining a Doctorate in Medicine in 1980 from University of Oregon Health Science Center, he completed his residency from the University of California Davis in 1985. He later worked at Urgent Care and then the Eugene Clinic, which is now PeaceHealth Medical Group. Bill played a key role in opening the new RiverBend Hospital after beginning his term as Chief of Staff in 2006. |

Molly Bedortha
Registered Nurse 2 - Head of Triage Team at the University of Oregon’s Student Health Center. Earned two degrees from Lane: Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) in 1970 and Associates of Nursing Degree (RN) in 1982. Founding member of the Ask-A-Nurse program, a very popular service that offered telephone advice to people seeking to manage medical conditions, or wondering whether they needed to see a doctor. Invaluable mentor and advocate for students in Lane’s nursing programs. |

Sherry Duerst-Higgins Real Estate Broker for Hemenway Real Estate and education volunteer living in Cottage Grove. Earned a Dental Assisting degree from Lane in 1965 and returned in 1992 for training in Real Estate. South Lane School Board member for 22 years and served as the Oregon School Boards Association president. Business and Chamber of Commerce leader with many awards to her name – including Cottage Grove’s First Citizen honor. |

Lorraine Kerwood
Founder and Director of NextStep Recycling, a nonprofit that not only recycles computers and electronic equipment, but also distributes rebuilt computers locally and abroad. Started at Lane in 1987 taking adult education classes, then college-credit classes, participated in the Transitions to Success program for women. Received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon then enrolled in Lane’s Nonprofit Management Program in the Business Development Center, where she remains a client. Provides training, internships, and even employment to Lane students at NextStep’s West Eugene headquarters. Serves on Lane’s Computer Information Advisory Committee. |

Juan Carlos Valle Social Insurance Specialist for the Social Security Administration. An immigrant who didn't finish high school and couldn't speak English, he earned a high-school equivalency certificate (1989) and an Associate's degree in Hospitality Management (1997) from Lane. That led to a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Oregon, a certificate in Not-For-Profit Management, and current work to complete a Masters in Public Administration at the UO. Juan Carlos is the current President-Elect for the Board of Directors at Centro LatinoAmericano, a Board Member at Birth to Three, and serves as a commissioner for the Eugene Police Commission. |

Dr John Holtzapple, M.D. Family Medicine Physician with PeaceHealth Medical Group
Earned an Associates Degree in Nursing at Lane in 1983 before becoming a physician. He selflessly serves our community as a volunteer with White Bird Clinic, the Latino Medical Access Coalition, and the Lane County Medical Society. |

Alison Donway
Manager of Pilot Service for Horizon Air and liaison between Horizon Air and the FAA.
Earned an Associate of Applied Science in Flight Technology from Lane in 1996. Alison was a flight instructor in LCC’s aviation program, and was instrumental in the donation of a Frasca 142 simulator which is used to simulate conditions experienced by pilots when flying without reference to the horizon (i.e. in the clouds!). |

Chairman of the Oregon Public Utility Commission, Former Oregon State Senator & Representative.
Studied Journalism and Political Science at Lane in 1973. Lee has served over ten years as an advisor on Lane’s Professional and Technical Education Coordinating Committee. He’s currently an elected member of Willamalane Park and Recreation Board and the Springfield Planning Commission. |

LuAnne Boettiger, ADN, RN, MN
Director of Staff Development, McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center. Earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Lane in 1976. She facilitates clinical internships for many of Lane's students, and has served as a member of the Nursing Advisory Committee for 15 years, 10 years as chair.

Chief of Police, Springfield. Earned an Associate of Science in criminal justice from Lane in 1972. Chief Smith teaches criminal justice classes at Lane and chaired the Criminal Justice Advisory Council.

Timothy Wahlberg, AAS President, Evergreen International Aviation, Inc. Earned an Associate of Science and Airframe/Power Plant license from Lane in 1969. He served as Lane's Aviation Technology Advisory Committee Chair. Evergreen offers internships to Lane's aviation graduates, many of whom have been hired by the company. |
