Lane Community College’s Nursing Assistant Program provides participants with the skills to perform basic level nursing care. Content includes introduction to health care facilities, role of the nursing assistant, communication, medical terminology, basic body structure and function, patient needs, basic growth and development, preventing infection, body mechanics, and much more. This training is approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing. Upon successful completion of this non-credit class, participants may sit for the Oregon State Board of Nursing certification exam for basic Nursing Assistants (CNA 1).
The training consists of 158 contact hours and is divided into two parts. The first 83 hours is in a lecture and lab format. The second 75 hours is a clinical experience that typically takes place in local hospitals or nursing homes. This training opportunity is designed for people who are ready to enter the workforce and become a successful Nursing Assistant.
Individuals interested in this training must participate in the Brighter Futures Project, complete the 12-hour Healthcare Professions Orientation course, and take the National Career Readiness Certificate assessment prior to application submission.
