Weekly E-News Archive - Winter 2006 | E-News index TRiO E-News 11-13-06Dear TRiO Students: Hope you had a good three-day weekend by catching up on some work, rest, and recreation. There are only three weeks of classes left (and one of them is a three-day week!) Here is the news for the week. 1. ADD/DROP and GRADE CHANGE DEADLINE: Remember that this Friday is the last day you can change your grade options or drop or add classes. Please come in early this week to discuss your options if you think you may not be passing a class or if an expected grade will negatively impact your GPA. 2. REGISTERED for WINTER TERM? NO??? It is time to advance register so you will have more class and schedule options. Come in to talk with Aliscia if you need some advice regarding your winter term classes/ 3. THANKS for MAKING the TLC SUCH A QUIET STUDY ATMOSPHERE: At the beginning of the term we asked if everyone would give their best effort at making the TLC a quiet, library atmosphere conducive to study. WOW! You all are awesome! It has been so quiet in there. Thanks for your effort! 4. LANE HOLIDAY GIVING TREE: If you have kids age 13 and under who may be in need of some holiday presents, please contact Bette Dorris at 463-5365 or in the Student Life and Leadership Office as soon as possible. 5. SHOW ME THE MONEY (the Scholarship class) has 17 TRiO students registered. We have room for 24 students, and will need to give the remaining 7 seats to non-TRiO students if no other TRiO students sign up. If you intend to register please do so this week. 6. TLC PRINTING PROBLEMS: If you try to print and nothing happens, please don't hit print several times. Ask a tutor to select the printer for you. This just takes a moment and the tutor can log the error for IT to fix. Upon bootup, the computers are selecting a printer we do not have. Once the tutor selects the printer for the IC Tree, the computer will stay set. Thanks for your patience as we have been upgrading the TLC computers. 7. TUTOR SUPPORT: If you have worked with a tutor in any tutoring center on campus this term (Fall) but have not registered for one of the courses that represents your tutored time, please ask a TRiO tutor to help you register for the cost-free, non-credit, and non-graded courses by Friday, 11/17. These non-class courses support tutoring campus wide. Thanks for supporting Lane tutoring.! 8. WINTER STUDY GROUPS can now start forming. Sign up on the sky-blue clipboard now to form study groups for winter term. The sooner your study group gets formed, the sooner you can meet. Take good care and let's see you in the TLC frequently this week. Warm Regards, TRiO E-News 11-20-06Dear TRiO Students: The end is in sight. Please use your time and resources to complete your work for the term. We are here, and we hope we see you here too! 1. TLC Finals week schedule will be different. The hours are shorter and tutor schedules are changed. Math tutoring will therefore be limited, with Math 65 and above tutors here from 9:00 to 1:00 Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. During Finals Week we will open at 8:30 Monday through Thursday, but we will close at 4:00 on Monday and Tuesday, at 2:00 on Wednesday, and at noon on Thursday. Friday the TLC will be closed. See the Finals Week Schedule posted in the TLC for exact hours and tutors. 2. No tutoring appointments during finals week. Be sure to make any appointments during weeks 9 and 10 or use drop in tutoring throughout the day. Now is a good time to look at trouble areas in which you will need tutor help before exam time. 3. Study Groups. Math 60 meets for the last time on Friday, December 1st. Math 65 meets for the last time on Wednesday, November 30th. Now is a good time to sign up for study groups for winter term. Keep the momentum going by putting down your name and available times for a winter study group. 5. Credit students who do not register in ExpressLane by the last day to use ExpressLane to register for a Fall Term class (November 17th) will be assessed a $100 late add fee for any grades submitted by instructors after this date. The last day to use ExpressLane to register differs depending on the length of the class, but for full term classes fall term, this deadline is by midnight on Friday, November 17th. The reason that the college is now charging this late add fee is that if a student doesn't register in time for the class, but a grade is submitted, they are not only violating college policies directing students to not sit in on classes without being registered, but the college does not get FTE for their enrollment, which is a vital part of our state funding process. 6. A reminder that the LCC POW WOW is Saturday, Dec. 2, grand entries at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., in the Main gym. We hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving. We have much to be grateful for, including being blessed with such warm, caring and dedicated TRiO students. Take care and be well. Warm Regards, Mary Parthemer, Director The TRiO Learning Center is a Student Support Services program funding by the US Department of Education, Division of Special Services, Title IV, Higher Education Act of 1965, ($244,735 in 2008-09). |
