"America in a Different Mirror: Re-Visioning Our Nation's Past."
Dr. Takaki,author of this year's Reading Together book, A Larger Memory: a History of Our Diversity, With Voices, states that his talk “will challenge the master narrative of American history -- the familiar but mistaken story that our nation was settled by European immigrants and that Americans are white or European in ancestry. My aim is not so much to revise but to reveal history. My hope is to offer a more inclusive definition and accurate definition of who is an American.”

"Rain,Weeding, and Succeeding in the Movement for Social, Economic and Environmental Justice"

Robin Morris Collin is a Professor of Law at Willamette University College of Law. Robert W. Collin is Senior Scholar in Residence at Willamette University’s Center for Public Policy. They collaborate extensively in the areas of sustainability and environmental justice, having helped to found the Conference Against Environmental Racism (CAER), and the Governor’s Environmental Justice Advisory Board.

Professors Morris Collin and Collin will address the inevitability of success in the Environmental Justice Movement, which joins the social, economic and environmental struggles for justice. They will also consider dangers that can arise from internalized values and structures, which can replicate injustice and oppression without intention, as well as dangers from a politics of identity and resistance to communities speaking for themselves.
