Challenge from the President

A Native American longhouse has been a dream at Lane Community College for many years. We need your support now to make the dream come true.

Nationally and statewide, Native Americans have among the lowest college enrollment and graduation rates. Yet Lane serves more than 650 self-identified Native American students, more than at any other United States community college. Lane has collaborated with tribal officials, developed an outstanding academic program, hosts an annual Pow Wow, and offers services such as the Native American Student Program. The long house is the next step to build on this success.

Help us create a place where students and the community can gather to share knowledge, culture and values. A long house will help all students connect, meet across cultural lines, and learn from each other and about each other.

Funding has been seeded by $100,000 from the Spirit Mountain Community Fund, and $250,000 from Lane's board, contingent upon securing the remaining funds. Your contribution will help us grow the seed into a vibrant facility for culture and education.

Sincerely, Mary Spilde President
