The Latino Student Union
The Latino Student Union focuses on providing personal, social, cultural and academic support to Latino students. The LSU seeks to be a vehicle to actively involve students in campus and local community activities and encourages the development of leadership skills among students. The LSU has implemented a wide variety of activities in the recent past, including: producing a Fall Welcome Salsa Dance, funding holiday meals and gifts for low-income famlilies, sponsoring on-campus presentations on Latino history, organizing Fiesta Latino campus activities, and participating in mentorship programs wilth local middle school students. The Latino Student Union has open membership to all students supportive of the LSU mission regardless of the sudent's race, ethnicity, relilgion, gender, sexual orientation, or physical abilities/disabilities. The Black Student Union
The Black Student Union is a student-based organization focused on the cultural, social, and academic needs of African- American students attending Lane. It seeks to build cultural and community bridges in the general context of the academic environment. The BSU is involved with the sponsorship of three campus/community events during the academic year: Kwanzaa; the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration; and Black History Month. The BSU is open to all students, regardless of race, creed, color, religious affiliation, or sexual orientation. Membership in the BSU requires a commitment to the mission of the BSU. The BSU is committed to the the development of cross-cultural ties with all groups on campus and in the community at large. The Native American Program
The Native American Program supports American Indian/Alaska Native students at Lane Community College. The program's goals are to help students make a smooth transition to college. The program helps students identify available resources, provides follow-up services, and offers a variety of activities and events which enable students to learn about Native American culture, values, and traditions. Available resources include:
The program coordinator serves as an on-campus advocate for the students between admissions, financial aid, Lane faculty, and other departments. In addition, the program provides information on the availability of appropriate scholarships.
