An Opportunity for Faculty to Infuse Student Success Strategies and Modules in their Courses

Learning Communities and the Title III Engaging Students grant are providing curriculum development support for faculty to infuse college success strategies and “college knowledge” into their courses. Research shows that academic and social integration is key to community college student success: students need repeated opportunities to learn the skills, awareness and behaviors that help them to learn and succeed in college.

Among many ideas for infusion:

• Create a mid-term course correction activity to help all students stay on course
• guide your students in making wise choices about their coursework;
• help them to connect what they are doing in your class to their larger goals and dreams;
• help them with time management and setting priorities;
• give them strategies and support for persisting in their work when they confront difficulty;
• introduce them to strategies to help them with learning in your discipline;
• help them to become both self-responsible and interdependent learners
• help them to strike a balance between academic and social life.
