Adding User Accounts on Windows XP

Overview

New user accounts can only be added by someone who already has a Windows account on the workstation. The first section below explains how the EXISTING user can add an account for the NEW user. The second section explains how the NEW user logs onto the workstation with the new account.

Setting Up the New Account -

First, the EXISTING user logs onto the workstation as usual and creates the new account:

  1. Select Start > Control Panel > User Accounts
  2. Under "Pick a task", select "Create a new account.”
  3. Under "Name the new account", enter the new user's Novell account name (usually last name, first initial) and click on “Next”.
  4. Under "Pick an account type", select Computer Administrator.
  5. Click on Create Account.
  6. Close the User Accounts and Control Panel windows and restart the computer.

Logging Onto the Workstation With the New Account -

Now the NEW user logs onto the workstation and sets the new account password:

  1. At the Novel Netware login, enter the new user's Netware user name and password.
  2. A Windows Workstation login will open with the previous user's name displayed. Change the name to the new user's user name created in step 3 above.
  3. Leave the password field blank.
  4. Put a check in the box that says “Change your Windows password to match your Netware password after a successful login.” This will synchronize the Netware and Windows passwords for the new user account.
