Basic Guidelines for Classroom Instructors

Link to: Print friendly page

NOTE: NO FOOD, DRINKS, CHATROOMS OR GAMES ARE ALLOWED IN THE LABS AT ANY TIME. Please stress this at your first class meeting, and reinforce as needed, as failure to observe this requirement may result in loss of lab usage. http://2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/cops/food.htm

COPYRIGHT LAWS: You or your students may not copy or electronically transfer any software from our computers to any media, as such reproduction is a violation of Federal law. The only software you are entitled to reproduce is original instructional material placed on the File Servers or hard drives. Violators will be reported to the proper school authorities. http://2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/cops/copyr.htm

IT Direct: Please report all problems in the IT Direct located on the desktop of the instructor’s machine in all classrooms. This includes such items as supply requests, malfunctioning hardware, software problems, and network problems. Be sure to include as much information as possible, including a detailed description of what was happening when the problem occurred.
IF INFORMATION IS NOT IN IT DIRECT, WE WILL LIKELY NOT BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THEREFORE UNABLE TO CORRECT IT.

NETWORK/HARDWARE/SOFTWARE PROBLEMS: If you need immediate assistance, contact the Help desk at Ext. 4444, Monday - Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please leave detailed information in IT Direct.

LAB SUPPLIES/KEYBOARDS/MICE: Some classrooms have lab supplies accessible to all staff, including extra keyboards and mice for immediate replacement of malfunctioning equipment. If you need to replace a mouse or keyboard, please do so and then enter a ticket in the IT Direct, indicate the equipment exchanged and the location of the defective keyboard/mouse.

FILE SERVER STUDENT ACCESS FOR SAVING FILES (NetStorage): In order to assure the best possible protection for student files, Instructional Computing has set up an area on the file server where students may save their work. This storage area is located on the ‘N:\’ Drive and is accessible from any computer lab or classroom where students login with their ‘L’ number. It is also available at home for students with internet access. Instructions for accessing this storage area are located on the NetStorage page.

NOTE: ALL STUDENT FILES ARE DELETED AT THE END OF EACH TERM

PRINTING: To keep fees to a minimum, we ask that you and your students print only those assignments relative to your classes. Extensive printing projects, such as lab packets, syllabi, etc., should be submitted to your individual Departments for reproduction by Printing and Graphics.

Printing is limited to 26 pages per printout and 2 copies only, front and back count as 2 pages. Copy machines are readily available for additional copies. Double-sided printing is standard in order to keep costs down and to conserve resources. The only exception to the number of pages and format is for final end of term projects. The number of copies remains the same. Please advise your students that networked environments may not print as rapidly as a direct printer connection. Please ask them to be patient for their print outs. As printouts accumulate in the laser printer, please ensure that they are placed in the adjacent paper tray at each printer location. If you have printer problems requiring immediate assistance, contact Instructional Computing Lab staff, Mike Smith at 5288. Otherwise, please enter detailed information in IT Direct.

STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES: Students requiring Assistive Technology (AT) accommodations in order to access a computer lab (such as chairs with arms or other physical support, ergonomic or split keyboards, trackball mice, or assistive software) must be authorized by Disability Resources. Those students will have a Computer Lab Accommodation letter to present to the Lab Coordinator at the beginning of each term. Please refer students to Disability Resources if they are without a letter but need AT to access the course or lab. Disability Resources and Instructional Computing will work together to implement all approved requests for accommodations.

ROOM SECURITY: If the classroom is ordinarily in use immediately before your class, it should already be unlocked and the equipment turned on. If there is a class scheduled immediately after your class by another instructor, please leave the door unlocked and the equipment turned on. If there is an open period following your class, leave the equipment on, but lock the room. If yours is the last class scheduled for that day, please turn off all electrical equipment (printers, CPU's, and monitors) and lock all doors. Room keys are issued on an "as needed" basis and must be returned or reissued at the end of each term. If you have a question concerning equipment, security, or key issuance, please calls Barbara Barlow at Ext. 5065.

GENERAL CLEAN-UP: Please leave the room ready for use by the next class. This includes: white boards erased, chairs pushed under desks, printer areas clean, and general policing of the area.

RECYCLE BOXES: To leave the environment ready for the next class, please ensure placement of all uncollected print jobs in the recycle boxes at the end of your class.

Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning facility. If you have guideline questions or suggestions, or if you need further information or assistance, contact:

Barbara Barlow at Ph. (541) 463-5065 [or Ext. 5065].
