Oregon :

  • ACORN National Web Site
    Works to improve housing conditions for the economically disadvantaged, increase community safety, secure living wages for all workers and improve the quality of local schools.  Works locally from the neighborhood level up.
  • A Portrait of Poverty in Oregon
    Report, articles, and photo gallery about poverty in Oregon .
  • Health Care for ALL – Oregon
    Working for secure, affordable health care for each and every Oregonian. Includes local and national links, news, and facts.
  • Community Action of Oregon (CADO)
    Mission is to "eradicate the causes and conditions of poverty that exist in Oregon." Includes regional and national resource links, relevant articles and news and events.

Regional:

  • PCUN - Pineros y Campesinos Unidos Del Noroeste - Northwest Treeplanters and Farmworkers United
    Fundamental goal is to empower farmworkers to understand and take action against systematic exploitation and all of its effects. Includes job and internship openings, calendar, newsletters, links, legislative, public action info, and pesticide info, photographs. En espanol.
  • Fair Contracting Foundation
    Non-profit labor/management corporation dedicated to fairness in public works construction. Provides info for government agencies, contractors, and workers. Includes resources and links.
  • Portland Jobs with Justice
    Regional chapter of Jobs for Justice, fighting for workers rights and economic justice.
    Includes regional news, actions, events, a photo gallery, links and info on Portland Worker's Rights' Board, the Cross Border Labor Organizing Coalition (CBLOC), fighting for workers’ rights and economic justice on an international level, with a particular focus on Central America and Mexico.

National:

  • United for a Fair Economy
    Raises awareness that concentrated wealth and power undermine the economy, corrupt democracy, deepen the racial divide, and tear communities apart. Includes Activist Network, Economics Education, Research Library, and Events. Includes outstanding info on workshops, statistics, grants, and trainings. UFE en espanol.
  • Responsible Wealth
    Includes info on tax fairness and living wage.
  • Center for Working Class Studies
    Creates social spaces for civic and academic conversations on working-class life and culture and its intersections with race, gender, and sexuality and serves as a clearinghouse for information on working-class culture, issues, and pedagogy; develops courses, organizes biennial conference, newsletter. Includes info on working class studies and projects in the U.S. Extensive bibliographies, links, digital libraries, and more.
  • Class Matters
    Online interviews, articles, links, and info on cross class alliances, community organizing, and class and other identities. Info on book Class Matters: Cross Class Alliance Building for Middle Class Activists.
  • Class Action: Building Bridges Across the Class Divide
    "…mission is to raise consciousness about the issues of classism, class and money, and their impact on our individual lives, our relationships, organizations, institutions, and culture." Includes info on programs and support groups, definitions, intersection of race, gender, and class, resources – articles, books, bibliographies, and links.
  • Poverty and Race Research Action Council
    Generates, gathers and disseminates research on the relationship between race and poverty, and promotes development and implementation of policies and practices that alleviate conditions caused by the interaction of race and poverty. Convenes advocates and researchers to encourage and further their collaboration on race and poverty issues, and supports social science research linked to local, state and national advocacy strategies.   • Working Lives
    Research site for labor biography subjects and methodologies, including over 2,000 entries on labor activists, including pioneering women activists.
  • Labor and Working Class History Association
    Includes events, grants and prizes, info on activism and the history of labor in the arts, and very extensive resources and links, including journals, oral histories, museums, and conference reports. Site well organized and very easy to use.
  • Geneseo Migrant Center
    Provides opportunities and information for migrant farmworkers. Includes scholarship info, bilingual clip sheets, library, and links to related sites.
  • Coalition on Human Needs
    Alliance of national organizations working together to promote public policies that address the needs of low-income and other vulnerable people. Includes news, jobs, action and issue information, and publications.
  • Jobs with Justice National Office
    Coalition of local organizations to improve working people's standard of living, fight for job security, and protect workers' right to organize. Includes news and updates, links to justice organizations, student section. En espanol.
  • Center for Study of Working Class Life
    Includes info on conferences, working class studies association, Unseen America project (working class people photographing their lives), online gallery, links, including labor links for women and minorities.

  • National Labor Committee
    Helps defend human rights of workers in global economy; investigates and exposes human and labor rights abuses committed by U.S. companies producing goods in developing world; public education, research and popular campaigns; online reports and educational materials; sells videos, books, publications.
  • Center for Community Change
    Helping low-income people, especially people of color, build powerful, effective organizations through which they can change their communities and public policies for the better. Includes legislative info, technical assistance and training, community and organizational development tools.
  • Results
    Formed to educate about issues related to hunger and poverty, research current hunger and poverty programs, and discover cost-effective solutions. Includes employment info, links, and calendar.
  • Coalition for Justice in the Maquiladoras
    Tri-national coalition of religious, environmental, labor, Latino and women’s organizations supporting worker and community struggles for social, economic and environmental justice in the maquiladora industry.  Includes alerts, testimonies, and forums. En espanol.
