The Look of Diversity at Lane
Lane's Diversity Plan presents a vision for diversity and incorporates best practices in the area of diversity strategic planning. Lane is the only community college in Oregon with positions of a Chief Diversity Officer and Ethnic Studies Coordinator and one of the few colleges in the state with a Diversity Council as part of the governing plan to oversee institutional diversity efforts.
Recent diversity accomplishments include:
- Continuing and increasing support for Rites of Passage program for diverse populations
- Ensuring collaboration of outreach to diverse students in high schools and middle schools with representatives of diverse populations
- Creating support for international women students
- Expanding non-traditional programming for women
- Increasing the recruitment area for classified staff
- Increasing promotion of open positions
- Extending recruitment processes periods
- Communicating Lane’s complaint processes to community
- Continuing developing courses that will fulfill the ethnic, gender, and cultural diversity graduation requirement
- Continuing the development of the Transitions programs
- American Indian language program
- Providing fair and equitable compensation for translation/interpretation services
- Increasing services/opportunities for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students
- Incorporation of Diversity as a Core Value.

- English as a Second Language relocation to Main Campus
- Fundraising for the Long House Project
- Updating of Discrimination and Harassment Procedures, Policies and Posters
- Inclusion of Diversity Components within In-Services
- American with Disabilities Act/504 Committee Meetings and Public Forum
- 10th Successful Year of Rites of Passage Program
- Integration of diversity values within Reading Together project
- Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and The Bible, Local Clergy Speak Out - series of interfaith panel discussions looking at inclusion issues in faith communities .
