Student Code of Conduct Citations

All students, with or without disabilities, are expected to comply with LCC’s Student Code of Conduct. Faculty and staff are advised to follow up on citing a student under the Code of Conduct by sending an email message to the Executive Dean of Student Affairs with details describing the violation.

Here are guidelines for determining whether/when to cite a student for behavioral problems:

Use usual methods of dealing with behavioral problems.

If the instructor does not have behavioral guidelines/ground rules for the class defined (e.g., respectful communication, listening to others' views, etc.), then those should be developed immediately and shared with the class.

If the instructor has developed and shared guidelines with the class, then review them again with the class.

If the student exhibiting problematic behavior has or may have a disability, the instructor can consult with Disability Resources for advice and guidance.

If the problematic behavior continues and is creating discomfort for others in the class, the instructor can speak with the student outside of class and define appropriate boundaries.

If the problem persists, then the instructor could cite the student by emailing the Executive Dean of Student Affairs, which will result in an investigation and determination of outcome.

If at any time faculty members would like to discuss a complex situation, they can contact their Associate Dean and the Executive Dean of Student Affairs for an informal consultation.
