Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who can submit?

A: Denali accepts any submissions from persons living in Lane County and/or students of Lane Community College. All submitted pieces must be the artist’s original work.

Q: When can I submit?

A: Submissions are accepted at any time, however submissions must be turned in by the deadline to be considered for publication in that issue.

Q: What can I submit?

A: Denali considers all original works of art and literature regardless of medium, style, or subject matter. This includes poetry and short stories of up to 3000 words, photography, etchings, prints, paintings, drawings, photomanipulation and all forms of printable digital art.

Q: How do I submit?

A: Fill out a submission form, attach the appropriate media, and send it via one of the addresses in our contact information.

Q: How many pieces can I submit?

A: No more than 10 pieces may be submitted by any one person.

Q: What format does my art need to be in?

A: Art submissions are accepted in digital format (.doc, .rtf, .jpeg) saved at approximately 8" x 10" and 300 dpi. If you are not able to photograph or scan your artwork yourself, contact the Denali office at (541) 463-5897, or denali@lanecc.edu to arrange a time to have someone do this for you.

Q: What format does my literature need to be in?

A: Literature submissions are accepted in digital format, either via e-mail saved as a Word or Rich Text Format document or on CD. Typed 8.5" x 11" hard copies accompanying CD's are welcome, but not required.

Q: Does submission guarantee publication?

A: No, it doesn’t. All works submitted are reviewed by an Editorial Board of students, the editor, and advisors. The Editorial Board evaluates the works on matters of style, substance, voice, and creativity.

Q: When is the deadline for the Spring 2009 issue?

A: The deadline for the Spring 2010 issue is April 5th, 2010 at 5pm.

Q: Does this mean that Denali will own my work?

A: Absolutely not; all applicable copyrights will be retained by the author or creator of works that are submitted and/or published. Denali receives one-time publishing rights only for any piece selected by the Editorial Board.
