The college requires that all advertising (other than classified ads from Human Resources or Purchasing) shall be reviewed and approved by the Marketing and Public Relations department. Approval is required for display and classified advertising in newspapers and other print publications, and for advertising on radio, television, billboards, and other advertising venues. Marketing and Public Relations evaluates advertising for accuracy, clarity, correct use of English, quality of design and photography, consistency with college graphic standards, and compliance with state and federal laws.
The Lane logo must appear in all visual advertising for the college. For more information about using the logo, see the COPPS logo policy or go to the Marketing and Public Relations web page on logo use. The college’s affirmative action statement—the short version is “an equal opportunity/affirmative action institution”—is necessary on all print advertising related to recruitment. Print ads placed by departments need to contain the department name and a phone number or web address to contact for more information.
Professional quality design and typography are essential for print ads to be fully effective. Ads should be created with the involvement of the marketing coordinator and Printing/Graphics or by an advertising agency or graphic designer. If using a photograph, it should be of good technical quality and show subjects and the college in a positive light.
For more information about creating advertising, see the Marketing and Public Relations web page on advertising, or contact the marketing coordinator at ext. 5268.
