Basic Sound Engineering

 Drawing upon over a decade as a full-time sound engineer, the instructor will guide you through the use of studio/audio equipment such as microphones, cables, mixers and signal processing units. No prerequisites required; students only need an interest in sound engineering and/or music. Once registered, please email giddy@sproutcity.com for directions to the studio.

Beginning Guitar

Guitar for total beginners.  Learn basics of chords, strumming, finger picking.  Learn to play melodies and accompany others.  Provide your own guitar.

Beginning Mandolin

A beginners class on how to play basic bluegrass or old-time mandolin.  Rhythm techniques will be taught along with moveable chord positions.  The focus is to offer a basic understanding of the mandolin and its function in a bluegrass band. Harmonica

Learn to play in a variety of styles--blues, country, folk, traditional and jazz on this 'take-anywhere' instrument.  No previous music necessary.  Provide own harmonica in the key of C.

Introduction to 5-String Banjo

This class is an introduction to the 5-string banjo and how it is played.  It is recommended you have access to a 5-string banjo in playable condition. Old Time Fiddler

Learn to play old-time hoedowns, reels, waltzes and more.  Students will learn to play by ear. Renown local fiddler, Chip, Dr Horsehair,Cohen teaches this class for beginning to advanced  fiddlers/violinists.  Students should have their own fiddle and be able to play a simple melody or scale.
