Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy Technician Certification Part I class is offered Fall and Spring term only. Enrollment in the class is by application only. To get an application, you must attend the informational meeting. The informational meetings for the Spring term class 2012 will be Wednesday, Feb 15 from 5:00-6:00 pm. The informational meeting will be at the LCC Downtown Center 1059 Willamette St in Room 202

Pharmacy Technician Certification
Upon successful completion of this 40-hour, two-term course, students who are licensed or applying to be licensed Pharmacy Technicians will be eligible to take the nationally recognized PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) exam. The course includes pharmacy-specific medical terminology, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students learn dosage calculations, IV flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. It highly recommended students take the Pharmacy Calculations class and the Medical Terminology in the Pharmacy Practice class in addition to the 40 hour Pharmacy Technician class.

The Pharmacy Technician Certification class and Pharmacy Calculations class meets on Wednesdays. Medical Terminiology in the Pharmacy class will meet every other Saturday from 9:30 am-12:30 pm

The cost for the Pharmacy Technician certification class is $329 per term plus a textbook (approx. $35) and the licensing fees( approx. $200). Pharmacy Calculations class cost is $119 and Medical Terminlogy in the Pharmacy Practice cost is $159.

Admission Requirement

If you have attended any College or University, you do not need to apply for admission or go through testing for this class. You must attend the Informational meeting as that is when you will get the application. You will need to attach unofficial transcripts for the College or University you attended to your application.

If you have not attended any College or University then you must do the following:

  • Attend the Pharmacy Technician Certification informational meeting
  • Apply for admission as a credit student at Lane Community College
  • Complete Math and Reading tests through Lane’s Main Campus testing center
  • Meet the Reading Proficiency requirement of a score of 76 or higher
  • Meet the Math Proficiency requirement of 7 or above on parts A, B and C
  • Fill out the application available only at the informational meeting
