Katrina Weaver Memorial Scholarship $1000
You must be enrolled in the Nursing Assistant Class through the Continuing Education Dept at Lane Community College.
The scholarship will be awarded to a student who exhibits compassion for the elderly and disabled. Also, a strong work ethic, self motivation and the ability to overcome obstacles.
Participation in Community and Professional Activities is preferred and students must show a financial need for the scholarship.

Nursing Assistant Orientation
This free, two-hour class will introduce you to the realities of the job and the skills and training needed to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. CNA can be a fulfilling, lifelong vocation or the first step in your health care career. Registration and attendance at this orientation is required in order to receive the application for the Winter term Nursing Assistant class.

Lane Community College’s nursing assistant program provides the student with the skills to perform basic level nursing care. Content includes introduction to health care facilities, role of the nursing assistant, communication, medical terminology, basic body structure and function, patient needs, basic growth and development, preventing infection, body mechanics, and much more. This course is approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
Upon successful completion of this non-credit class, students may sit for the Oregon State Board of Nursing certification exam for nursing assistants (CNA 1) at an additional fee payable to the testing agency.
Classes are offered every term. Class times will vary term to term. The one-term class consists of 158 contact hours including 79 hours of lecture and lab and 79 hours of clinical experience. Clinical hours begin about the fourth or fifth week of the term and are normally done at local nursing homes. Approximate length of the course is 11 weeks.
The cost of this class is $1099, this cost includes an American Heart Association CPR class. A CPR card is required to sit for the Oregon State Board of Nursing certification exam. Additional costs of approximately $300 includes textbook, state exam fee, a watch with a second hand, uniform and shoes. Uniforms are not required until clinicals begin. While not required, students are encouraged to provide their own stethoscope and gait belt. Prices are subject to change without notice. This class does not qualify for Federal Financial Aid.
Additional expenses: Students will need to submit to a criminal background check at a cost of $35 and a 10 panel drug screening at a cost of $50. Proof of immunization or titers is required for MMR, Varicella (chicken pox), Hep B (or proof that you started the series) and current TB (within the last two years). Personal health insurance is not required but is recommended.
CNA 2-Acute Care Training
Winter term 2012

In assisting licensed nursing personnel in the provision of nursing care, a
CNA 2 - Acute Care will be able to provide opportunities for optimal client
independence and support behaviors that promote positive healing and to
demonstrate to peers the correct methods and model behavior needed to
address patient care needs on an individualized basis.
CNA 2-Acute Care training at Lane lasts approximately six weeks and consists of 53 classroom and 25 clinical hours at a cost of $659. By Oregon State Board of Nursing regulations, the course is restricted to those who hold a current, unencumbered Oregon CNA 1 certificate and have their name listed on the CNA Registry. Also, you must have recent, documented 3 months work experience as a CNA 1 in a long term care facility. Enrollment in this class is by application only contact Kathy Calise for an application.

There is no textbook to purchase for this course. Required color of scrubs will be discussed in class.
